So this forum involves the use of our Subarus in ways most others would not... So how about a thread about unique ways you've put your suby to use?

My story:
It snowed last week, a good 7-8 inches. I was driving home from a couple hours of playing around, and I was coming down the hill that my apartment is on, I see a stuck Ford F-250. She was coming down the hill and spun 180 degrees around and put the back end into a small snow bank... and only having 2wd she wasn't going anywhere. She couldn't back down the hill because their was a parked car right behind her.

I happened to have some nylon rope that I had used earlier that day to do some "snow skiing" behind my car. It was fairly obvious that the guy and girl had their doubts about the rope and my car... I did too, but I figured I'd try. Better than waiting for a police officer or other help because they were already in a dangerous position to on-coming traffic...on a snowy hill. The hill had been plowed but the snow was still coming down

So I wrapped the rope around my tow hook and around their control arm 3 times and told them to stay on the gas... I feathered the clutch and started pulling. At first all my car did was spin the tires, but I started to slowly make progress. Once I got my momentum going I released the clutch all the way and proceeded to pull them to a dryer spot up the hill a bit.

I was surprised, as were they, that it worked.

i am surprised the nylon rope held.

wrapping it around the controll arm brings to mind a funny story. a fired of mine was on the lake in his jeep cherokee. he saw a truck get stuck, and a honda trying to pull him out.

buddy goes up and asks if they need hlpe, they say the have it. friend leaves, as he is leaving he notices they have tow strap attached to the axle of the honda, as he is doing running jerks to pull the truck out! lol

I was surprised as well. Since then I've pulled 2 others out using that rope. I yanked my room mates truck around about 40 degrees(swung the back end out) because he couldn't otherwise back up from his parking spot, people were parked so close behind him.

they attached it to the axle? Did anything break?

i dont know if anything broke or not, my friend left.

i have towed 2 vehicles w/ my car. my friends 1.8l FWD L, about 1/2 mile. and my other friends lifted 88 gl wagon, pulled him about a mile. this was a really funny story, cause our cars both broke at the same time but i got mine running agian and towed him home, knowing the details makes it funnier.

i also got stuck trying to pull a vehicle. it was at the ice race. a 9-2x was stuck in a snow back. i hooked it up and started to pull. my wheels spun on the ice (i was on the track). it ended up got stuck on flat ground i could go forward or back cuase the wheels would just spin lol.

talk about the beauty of AWD. last year me and my bro (06drtywgn) went to glamis and had a blast. only got stuck once! (5 minutes of hand diggin and we were out). i actually high centered mine though, that took an hour of diggin! we had a blast and got plenty of  "was that a car?" blank stares.

yeah, i was lurking in your flickr gallery last night (killing some time on swrallyx) and i though that was awesome to have your flag on a yakima rack...

Ive always thought about putting like 5 lights on one of my snowboarding racks :)

Looks like a lot of fun driving out in glamis, ive only been in my friends' huge jock trucks... reminds me of that oldschool video of that guy going up comp hill

Is that by chance a Nissan motor? It looks kinda like the motor out of my buddy's 240z.

I had a friend who was moving, and was whining that she didn't have an ever-so-useful 'friend with a truck' to help her. I said I'd help her with my Outback, and she claimed it'd take way too many trips. Not one to back down from a challenge, I said I'd get her entire apartment moved in two trips.

The 7 mile drive with a mattress and box spring strapped to the roof and a full load of furniture in the back was certainly something to see. Subies FTW!! I won my bet ;)

Haven't had to pull anyone anyone yet, but if this part of Indiana ever gets snow again (hahaha, yeah right) I'll no doubt have an opportunity

42" Mitsubishi projection television. And the tailgate closed. (This is why teh GL is superior: no rear strut towers! Downside, no acceleration...)

High centered on 2 feet of snowdrift... in my driveway. Took 3 hours to dig the snow out from underneath so the tires could touch ground. I was wearing shredded Converses, two hours later I could feel my feet again. They politely gave me the day off of work, at least. The amazing thing is that I got up there in the first place, just drove in like normal, didn't have to launch it in from the street. The snow must have settled/melted and refroze or something, because the next day I put it in Reverse and it wouldn't budge. :D

Not an Impreza, but:

Peripheral port 12A. If that means nothing, then think torque curve flat as Kansas at around 150ft-lb of torque. 150ft-lb at 4000, 150ft-lb at 9000.... down side is it doesn't run at all except at full throttle. I used similar means to take the drivetrain from my Subaru home from work after the gods of ferric oxide claimed it in sacrifice.
