View Full Version : Do I need a program to get rid of my cat code?

I recently replaced my stock downpipe with an helix catted downpipe and the check engine continually tripping.

the code says cat flow below threshold...

I reset it and it will go away for a day, depending on how hard I drive it.

Do I need to get a reflash to get rid of this?

Need to get my car inspected asap!

car is an 05 wrx 2.0

yeah, you need EM (engine management) to get rid of that code.

to pass inspection....go back to stock, get inspected, pass, then put it all back on. sorry, not what you want to hear.

to really take the power advantage of the new downpipe, get a cobb accessport or get a local tuner to reflash your ecu to stage 2.

It seems like you can't make any power related changes without the ECU freaking out. I bought my Sti with some sort of K&N short ram intake on it, and it worked fine. But when I had them do state inspection they reset the ECU (i assume) because then the car started throwing a code for being too lean. After they replaced the O2 sensor and MAF to no avail, they put on a stock air intake and no problems now.

it only started when I put the new dp on

The cause of this code is likely the positioning of the O2 sensor. You need to take the O2 sensor out of the direct path of the exaust. I believe Titek makes a fix kit. Of course this is just a way around it, it doesn't really solve the problem of what the ECU is expecting. I just satisfies the ECU in what it's looking for so it won't throw a CEL. The proper way of course is to get engine management.

+1 for Local Tuners. God Bless Em All

I reset it yesterday and so far hasn't come back on... but I've been babying it the whole way to school... Barely keeping it out of boost

This is NO WAY to live life!

Get some EM son. I had insane boost creep with my 3" catless TBE before i got my accessport. Its like killing 3 birds with one stone.

1) It will eliminate many common CEL's from happening in the first place
2) You can check and clear your own codes w/o going to the dumbasses at autozone or pepboys.
3) You can upload that sexy stage 2 map and get a whole new driving experience (of and a protune for 100 octane gas for fun down the road...)

So yeah, my advice is get an Accessport or some other form of engine management. The quick temp fix is to put the stock stuff back on.
