So I got a CEL the other day (has since disappeared, fiance says it happened once before). Went to Autozone and they pulled a P0301 which their database says is a Misfire on cylinder 1.
Ok, I know I need to check spark plugs etc. for an intermittent connection, but my problem is... lol which cylinder is #1?
might sound like a n00b question, but I never realized I don't know what order the cylinders are...
TIA!!!

EDIT:oh i forgot... it's a 2002 WRX MT

Isn't cyl 1 the one closest to the belts ?
I wouldnt wory about the code, unless it comes back ... repeatedly.
Then the fun starts ( more diag. tests. ) ... not really.
I'm willing to put money on, that its NOT a spark plug wire issue. :D

If you're looking at the engine from the top and in front of it, I believe it goes:
1- front left
2- front right
3- rear left
4- rear right
But I'm not 100% on this, so wait till someone else confirms it.

I think I might have found the cause through a little research on Iclub.
I recently installed a new flywheel/clutch and apparently the lightened flywheel can cause a misfire CEL (P0301-0304).
Though I still want to check the spark plug and coilpack so I still would like to know which cylinder is numero 1

after driving the car to Utah, I am fairly sure it is the flywheel causing a false misfire code, as I couldn't hear/feel any misfire for 800 miles.
