hey im in the proces of building my car right now just about got it all seam prepped and gonna start stitch welding it together. im planning on putting .125" plates on top of my strut towers fully welding those in then stitching the seams on the inside of the strut tower as well as inside the engine bay. heres a picture of what i have so far any comments or suggestions would be helpfullhttp://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/xrallyx/11112009136.jpg

I'd say 3/16th for the strut plates - others may say differently.

Nice, looks like it should be a fun project!

I agree with Daniel. Go with a bit thicker for the strut mounts than .125"
It's a critical area, and the extra material isn't going to add a significant amount of weight anyway, no reason to be skimpy.

Tie into the strut towers, and replace the factory dash bar with a stronger one that is tied into the roll cage. ;) but you probably knew that. hehe

When I got my cage built we had these plates machined I believe from 3/16 steel. They fit the shape of the strut tower perfectly for welding.
He made a few sets in plans for some more car builds coming up- but I am willing to part with some-
For right now they are $100/set + shipping.
I believe I have 2 complete sets left. Then I think 5 sets of just fronts.
Only for GC bodied cars right now. GD and GE plates coming soon.
Where are you located?

Since you're in Cincinnati I could point you to a very well respected G2 competitor in your region, Chris Greenhouse, who is always more than willing to give advice and guidance to new folks. He knows it all having co-driven, driven and built his own car.
PM me your contact info if you'd like and I'll pass it on to him.

Sweet! A Cincinnati build! I'm down in NKY (covington). I'd love to get something together for a few rally's a year. I'm afraid this is a bad time to be getting excited about it. Looks like NASA dropped a few events for 2010 and RA killed a handful of events too. Hopefully we get SOFR going around here!
