Been trying to upload pics all f'n day but has not been working for some reason....Ill post them asap!!

Well it appeared that Nasioc was having a "fun" rally x type day at El Mirage on 9-22. So naturally a few DI members had to go. All was well for the majority of the day, the usuall flat/de beeded tire here and there. We actually set up a course and it was fun (my plan was to practice left foot braking), but theres a whole desert out there....so off I went down a road cruising at about 50 mph hitting some whoops and bottoming out here and there, then all of a sudden I came into some giant holes and hit the CLUTCH and not the brake  ....I didn't stop, instead I was airborne as the rear end bottomed out I flew into the next mound of dirt landed on the front bumper and launched again. After finally stoping and making sure myself and Lorenkb were ok we got out and OUCH!!! Sooo damage report: driver front stut>destroyed/BENT. Pass rear strut> bent, and the other two don't look like there in good condition. Front bumper busted way more than it was. Hood about 1'' off from closing. Radiator core support bottom smashed/bent, top bent. Cooling fans hitting the motor. Subframe brace smashed....thats the obvious. Oh and the parts of the front bumper beam that hang down are smashed. I am in the process of locating some parts.....trying to get my car home. As of right now my car is in Victorville at Lorenkb's house.

:D Special thanks to Lorenkb for all his help and for letting my keep my busted up car at his house.

Pics will be up as soon as possible.

Yeah, it was a bit of a rough ride. I was thinking there was going to be nothing left of the front end when we got out. My hat's off to the engineers at Subaru. At some point in time we hit hard enough to fling my glasses off my head (they somehow ended up in the shifter boot??)

I'm tempted to go out after work and see if I can find that road again to take some pictures. I don't think anyone would believe the car made it through those whoops at speed only to be driven 25 miles to my house

This is proof once again that Loren is a stand up guy. Sorry about your car Kyle and remember what I said... I got the whole week off if you need any help.

Wow talk about a rough day. That's a lot more carnage than I wanted to see from just a fun day in the dirt. Good luck in the repairs, get her fixed soon.

Looks like it's time to upgrade your struts all around so something nice and beefy. It should also give you reason to go ahead with some of the Jackson Rally projects like the subframe.

Woah! that sucks, becareful out there guys, we don't need anybody getting hurt. Wheres your skid plate?, that might have helped deflect the car up and over some stuff.

Some people would kill to have that much camber!!!
All joking aside, I'm sorry to hear about your mishap, but glad that you are ok

Well I have located another set of 06 wrx sedan struts and noticed one difference on the fronts. I believe this is because the sedan has a wider track width in the front. If anyone can confirm this that would be helpful. If so then I will purchase these struts from my buddy and prob. buy the alum. control arms to get the same track width as the sedan. A little upgrade might make my car smile again.

Oh I tried my bros stock 05 STI struts but they are way different at the attachment to the upright...

JacksonRally
09-24-2007, 02:05 PM
yup.. sedan to wagon is 10mm difference. I believe thats per side. Thats exactly the difference I measured off my strut to the sedan struts. So I'm thinkin the alum. control arms on SubaruProParts.com are looking like the ones I need to make up for the difference since they are an upgrade for the sedan. Luckily I'm getting these struts cheap. But I don't have the extra $350 for the arms.....arrrgghhh

Have you bought those stuts yet? Did a quick search on NastySock and found this...

Waiting for shipping would suck but 175 for all four aint bad!

Sweet guys thanks for the info on the struts and shipping. I'm also tossing around another alternative. My buddy at M1 has some alum. lower control arms and I may just borrow them to fixture them and make my own, but it just takes more time. I'm also bummin cause I may miss Antioch though my bro will let me run his car as long as I don't beat him!!!!

Well I guess there was some damage to my driver side inner c.v. from El Mirage. At JV I tried to launch off the line on my first run and there was a loud pop crash bang from that side and I could not race my car. I did notice a vibration from that side a few days earlier (first time I drove it on the freeway since the crash) so I think that when I tried to launch it just finished its self off.

So I raced in my bros car and did horrible and got last.

Negative camber from bent struts FTL. I hit a pot hole after a crest. I hit so hard my wipers turned on and my mirror just about fell off of the windshield.

Well I hope I weeded out the last bit of damage....CV. I put in brand new sedan axles and flushed the trans and r-diff.

Thanks to DRT SUBY for the hook up on the axles and for his supervising today. 8)
