View Full Version : Spring options with Foz struts

Hi guys,

A friend of mine is trading me his Forester suspension for my wrx wagon suspension. I want to raise my wagon, but retain some semblance of street handling with my current prodrive blue wagon springs. He wants to lower his forester, but maybe not as much as wagon struts + blues. This leads us to question whether or not we can keep our respective springs, and that brings me to you wise folks. :)

From both perspectives, is this possible? Can Prodrive blues fit on forester struts? Would I be facing significant issues with limiting the forester strut travel if I went this route? From his point of view, can forester springs fit on wrx wagon struts?

I'm basically trying to decide if it's worth it (or even possible) to keep my prodrive springs, since I love the stiffer rate. At the same time, he wants to lower his Forester, so would wrx struts and forester springs accomplish that acceptably?

I know there are a lot of questions here, and I know these types of threads pop up by the dozens.

The thing is, I'm scheduled to drive a couple hours to his place next weekend to do this swap, so I want to make absolutely sure that we won't run into any inconvenient realizations when I get out there. If it is necessary for us to just swap entire assemblies, I want to know that before I get out there and start taking unnecessary steps only to be attempting the impossible.

Thanks a ton for your input,

Sheehan

'04-05 fozz XT? what is he giving you for your springs besides his setup, ha. can't see much of a lift if you keep your springs. mixing springs and struts will introduce undesirable suspension characteristics to say the least. If you're gonna do this you're better off just swapping setups (you will need to keep your respective tophats for the rears-measure the bolts in the rears to be sure). So, depending on the age of the forester setup, your friend may be getting the better deal. Trying to get a lift AND maintain your spring rate may be unrealistic but you have to think that the forester springs on the wrx will be stiffer since it is a lighter load. I've seen the 07 forester xt with wrx setup-it's pretty sweet. hope it's a win/win for both of you.

Hmm, thanks for the input.

I'll let him know that we should swap the entire set up. He's driving an 04 Forester XS and I'm in an 04 wagon, so the condition of the struts should hopefully be pretty much the same.

I agree, I love how Foresterss look with wrx suspension. Not to mention I love how wrx wagons look lifted! :D.

Thanks for your help,

Sheehan

just a reminderto keep your own rear tophats (i.e., rent the spring compressors ahead of time).
