View Full Version : More ghetto mods ... ( lighting )

My car had purdy decent fogs from the factory, BUT you cannot turn them 45deg. " out " . :D ... and since I'm a cheap bastard.

I made some " corner(ing) " lights, out of some Harbor Freight 4.99$ " auxiliary " lights, ( Little square ones, like 3x4in. It uses an H3 bulb . ) a while back ... put them in the stock location, wired them into the stock harness ... and the STI covers even fit over them and everything ...

The auxiliary lights have a purdy focused beam, kinda like a "driving" beam . Not-so-good , for lighting up a corner, or what not .

I had some free time, and I drove around my usual performance shops. ... Like Meijers, Andersons, HF, Radio shack . :D

All the cheap-o " fog " or " aux." lights, seem to have the same design. ( size ans shape ) Hmm ...

I had some extra cash ... so I baught a set from Meijer, ( 14.99$ ) that seemed to have a more of a " fog " light style lens . The plan is to swap lenses. ( I'm also lazy, on top of cheap. )

The new lights have " sealed beam " design, the old ones are a lens and a reflector. No swaping just lenses ...

I just swaped the whole " sealed beam " from one housing to the other . YAY !

The new beam def. has a better pattern, but I still want more ...

I know there is " trade-off " between how focused a light is and distance ... but ...

I might go back to Meijer and buy some more " tractor " / " work " lights. ( 5.99 $ ) They are the same design, but with an even better wider light patern . I know this because I have one on the rear bumper. :D

Now, what to do with the extra set ( aux/driving ) lights ?

Um... We need pictures with these kinds of writeups

This doesnt sound super ghetto... Unless you duct-taped them to your bumper...

I bought a set of 17.99$ Yellow Fog-Lights for Lindsey... Putting them on next week...

But Hella 500 fogs are PROBABLY what you are looking for  Mind you they are only ~60$ a pair, most places....

Thanks, but they are yellow ...

Update : The HF aux. lights are on the top of the bumper in front of the grill. :D ... they have their own pwr. supply and switch.

I'm off, for some more wire loom ...

Did a little grocery shopping ... just HAD to swing by the auto section. Looks like they raised the price on the tector light flood beams. Grr... So thats how they are going to pay for the new remodel ...

The plan was to re arange the whole thing again. using the flood beams as corner light and moving the fog lights on the top of the bumper ... LOL .

I was going to pitch the HF ones in the garbage ...

You call those lights ghetto?
They look pretty nice to me.
For ghetto how about buying 3 X 100w cheepo spots, a pair of wide beams, and a pair of fogs. I swaped out the 55w bulbs on the wides and fogs for 100 watters. And all this is attached to my front bumper with screws and wood frame brackets.

so much overkill. retrofit your headlights with some TL Bixenon projectors. then do a hella driving light kit with the OEM HID stuff. that will KILL your output and look much cleaner... ALSO will cause less strain on the battery

These headlights are meant to replace sealed beam units that have an OEM housing. How would I mount these? I'm interested but I need more info.

Make brackets with scrap metal pieces :-P

BUT.. .these aren't projectors, so I would advise against running HID in them, and since they r 4.95$ I wouldn't imagine they are of a quality design...
