rally new york.

what a crazy year its been for me. Drove my car to 3 of the 4 rallies i did this year (drove home from the 4th)

1st in prod 2wd
1st in overall 2wd

4Th out of all drives (keith has 2nd )

I had a change of bosses at my job... and i hate my job now. HATE IT. but i owe a bunch on my visa after my last rally (prescott)

with the 2K start fund. and about $800 entry fee. i could come home with a few bucks if i drove out there and was able to drive back.. but i'de have to quit my job. with out any good prospects (C# / sql / .net programmer in reno)

I had a few friends die in the past year. and i'm just wondering if quitting my job for 1 event and coming home to lots of debt and no way to pay it off would really be that wise. but then again we can die any day, sometimes just doing something lame (taking out the trash) hmmf.

what would you do? I have a good paying job (could be making more doing the same in the same town) but its paid for my other rallies so far..

 waaaah , lolz hmmf... Arg. torn and angry :pissed::angryfinger: stupid jobs...

anyone willing to let me sofa surf with them for a long time if i try this and come up crapples? nah don't think i'm gonna but... damn ... so tempting...

Well depending on a few things i would come out to IRNY...

do you own a home or rent, do you have a wife and/or kids? anybody to support but yourself?

oh well that sucks, hehe.

If you dont have any other ties and you hate your job, i would just come out and see if you could keep your job at the sametime.

If not you could always just stay here and get a job. Im sure there are plenty here for you in the NY metro area, hehe.

I maxxed out a few credit cards to finnish the car and get to gorman and prescott....no regrets. but I know my financial situation is different from yours.

I've also been over my head in debt and jobless, and let me tell you....it sucks and takes a LONG time to get out of.....so my personal advice is to hold back. there's plenty of rallies on the west coast, its not worth losing your job over (even if it is a crappy job).

sorry to hear about your friends, that's hard.

Dude, it's a hobby, don't wreck your career and personal finances beyond repair to go to one race. There are plenty more to come in the future.

Yeah... hahaha he is married to the L!

NY is a LOOONG fricking way to go for a rally. I bet you can to two events closer to home next year for the same amount of $ right? Just look to the future and stick out the crappy job. I know i am... waiting for the damn economy to turn around so i can start making some real money and actually run a fricken race. BAH!

I disagree. Dude, do it. What are the chances of this ever happening again? Are you kidding me!?!

Fly to NY and rent a car. Set up a fund like Keith did. I would donate. Someone has to have some frequent flyer miles to give you and I'm certain you could find a car to do it in. I bet Jackson Rally would be more than willing to help you too.

Whoa.. first place in USRC class and the nearest competitor is competing in the rally. Would you try and drive Betsy out there?

a good point, but don't forget.....just FYI, USRC Championship is at Prescott next year.....so all you needs to do is run another season like this year, and the championship will come to him!

I agree on all levels. However, getting the subsidy to come out is a great chance to do the rally at a minimum cost. If you were just going to tow out and enter the rally without that i would say dont do it.

But being you have the subsidy to come out I would say go for it. Lets make DI shine at the Championship round next year!

Last chance to enter is October 15.... today......

reguardless of the last entry date being today, if you dont have things sorted by today it will be extremely difficult to make it out.

You should roll up in second place even without going, I don't think the expense is worth fighting for first with Brosnan. You know you'd have to beat him to win, right? What are your chances of that? It would be a shame to go all that way expecting to walk away with the championship and not. Besides, second in the USRC in your fist season is absolutely nothing to sneeze at.

Save the budget for a proper skid plate.... ooooohhh, burn!!

This is true. Dan Brosnan has been running forever and is quite quick in his SE-R.

2nd in the 2wd cup overall is awesome your first year out!

So Dan blows his motor. And Alex is friggin national champ in his first year.

DO IT

haha good point. Dan has been known to spin out and lose it.

how about "Alex quits his job, blows all his money going to IRNY, ends up living in Betsy down by the river and can't rally for the next two years as he gets his finances back in order..."

ouch... but true... I would expect to be a massive under dog, 200 hp versus a 110 hp , not running right. my only hope would be that he had some mechanical issue, which might make the win feel a lil hollow.

Also i have an RS 2.5 fly wheel on the car (legal by all rules, but horrible as its much heavier than the stock 1.8 fly) , and driving home from prescott with no exhuast seemed to do something bad to the motor, Kmount mentioned it could burn the valves or something. it went down from getting 25 mpg to 22.. (it was actually getting 30 when i first bought it) Its hesitating a lot now, and its stalled while idling once.. so driving there could be extra risky.

I did replace the exhast Y (manifold) again and even bought a spare, but i haven't addressed the issue, that my skid plate needs more support, hitting rocks on the sides of it pushes it into my exhuast.

Yeah ... my plan would be that i would have to Drive out .. and back... i could probably afford to ship it back and fly back myself, and probably .. maybe end up ahead by a few hundred. (staying in a tent on the drive out) ... arg.. but since i missed the cut off date guess the decision has been made.

yeah this week i did a 10 hour, 15 hour, 12 hour , hour, and oly doing 6 hours today and fly back home. :angryfinger: all for a boss who says i don't work hard... (no no no resentment here at all)

yeah i keep feeling i should go ... living in my car for a whlie for a win wouldn't bug me (well it would ... but damn i'm addicted to rally), but the wise point about missing a bunch of rallies next year scares me... :-( going to 1 rally isn't worth missing 3 or 4 next year...

I **really** need to work on my planning skills. mine suck. something i realized when i arrived at prescott at 4 am (day of recce) *sigh* oh well , at least i have web boards to whine on about and make me feel better :)

ya, i was (and still slightly am) thinking about it.. but .. meh. i hate debt..

ya i was a bit absent from this thread after i started, didn't have much free time over this past week. gonna try and enjoy my weekend before i go back to chicago to enjoy Alere's lovely office building there. (them footing the bill for the embassy suites is nice too)

i should have done the flip a coin method of decision...

just did. damn tails, don't go :( what the hell does this stupid coin know anyways

well heads 2nd time, but i was flipping to bitch the crap out of the main VP of software about how bad my boss is.. i'll do that tonight /tomorrow incase he fires me. hehehe

crap got about 10 minutes to board my next flight. i hate being shipped around like cattle.

now i have 3 minutes to board, bgut wanted to say

hearing that the other guy showing up is way bad ass @ driving, and thinking aobut his car being faster than mine... REALLY MAKES ME WANT TO GO... ARG ... oh wellz...
