Un-fortunately my drivetrain dumped on me yesterday morning on the way to work. So now it's back in the shop.
Anybody know on an '02 OBS if the front diff is open? rear diff open or lsd? center diff is viscous?
It dumped in 2nd while accelerating out of a turn, engine rev'd up, I depress Clutch, no clunking noises, pedal acted normal, finding gears was hard, coasted to a stop. Turned engine off. No fluid spilled, no metal shavings, no parts on road. Re-started & thought I'd found 1st, nothin. Engine still idles/revs normal, in what gears I can find. Loud clunk noises with wheel rotation while backing down off the tow truck. Still, cant work through gears like before(mechanic says he can find the gears, but they don't feel the same to me). New tranny/linkage time? Or could this be a front, center, or rear diff problem?
Mechanic said sounds maybe like rear ring gear is it but I don't know...http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/images/smilies/popcorn.gif

02 has an open front and rear and a viscous LSD center. If you're having trouble getting into gear(s), that sounds like tranny internal trouble, not just diffs.

That's what I was kinda thinking. Someone else also suggested 2 gear may have broke.
So if I gotta get fix the tranny, you know what a new one goes for usually? I saw used ones on ebay but I'd assume new is better.

K, so mechanic thinks its the driver front axle(has LOTs of play), he wants to replace both for $400 with the boots(were missing/torn). I found a tranny on ebay for $250 with 108k just in case. Also said he drove it & shifted through gears fine. WTF? Could it klunked stuff back together coming off the tow truck to make it driveable?
At least this gives me an excuse to have my headers/cat-delete thrown on:shootsself:

sweet...so the driver side cv bound up, completely done. The passenger side was about to go also. New & changed out, works fine. Also, had the borlas & cat delete thrown on for a bonus!
