We are now carrying all the ingredients for the smooth shifting/no grinding transmission lube cocktail for the 5 speed manual trannys.

Thousands of people have used this recipe with great results. Subarus are notorious for sometimes having hard times shifting into 2nd and 3rd gears...this solves that problem.

Ingredients are:
Redline Lightweight Shockproof - 1 quart
Pennzoil Synchromesh - 1 quart
Castrol Hypoy C 80W90 Gear Oil - 1.5 quarts

Cooking instructions:
1. Drain tranny of old fluid
2. Pour Shockproff in
3. Pour Synchromesh in
4. Pour 1 quart of Castrol and in then slowly top off with the 2nd quart
5. Go drive like a bat out of hell and feel the smoothness!

Total comes to $37.99 + shipping

pretty sure it works in all transmissions...

any one know how often i should swap out all my fluids... like tranny oil. i know radiator is every 30k does it hurt your car to swap stuff out more often?

GrimmSpeed

definitely doesnt hurt to swap out more often...and if you are beating on your car you should do it pretty often. i dont know off hand what the manual says for tranny oil...60k or something i think

just letting you all know, thats a great price, its not easy to track all of these fluids down locally, no matter where you are. Thats what I have spent the past 6 hours doing, and believe me, if you have the time to just order the kit, it saves you a ton of time, and works out really nice price wise too.

Ooops - Called today but will be placing the order a bit later. Found out my paypal is linked to the incorrect account, need to fix that.

Thanks Justin

both of these pages link to the other.in regards to the first link maybe this only applies to older subarus? but then again the newer ones arent much different by desigh, just morre refined

not trying to step on toes here but who says you cant sell any one of these items individually?

just sharing common soob knowledge from both sides of old and new

Thanks for posting this.

For those that don't want to read through those threads, here's a bit of a summary:
1) The Cocktail is meant to be used on hard to shift/grinding trannies... if you don't have these symptoms you don't need the cocktail. Consensus is the cocktail does a good job at bringing a tranny that should really have some work done to it back to life.
2) The Cocktail is good for only 10 - 15K miles. You will be able to tell when to change when it starts grinding again.
3) Someone who rebuilds suby transmissions reguarly has posted that the cocktail is causing excessive wear to the synchros (baulk rings specifically). He states that it's just about the worst thing you could put in your tranny.

i've seen those 2 threads..i repeatedly get them from curious customers. those are the only 2 threads i've ever seen bashing the cocktail compared to hundreds if not thousands of happy customers using the cocktail for 10s of thousands of miles with no issues. i personally used it for 60k before grimmseed was even born and i loved it..which is one of the reasons i wanted to sell it.

we do sell the items individually, same page on the website as the cocktail.

i guess imo, actual real world results equal more than some tech bashing it. i have heard a few issues with the old 80s wagons but nothing else. my guess is that he's never even tried it..let alone for 10s of thousands of miles.

I've changed my tranny oil three times in 30k miles. I'm going to be doing it again next week when I swap trannies so I'll be making an order soon!

i have the same OCD as you lol. i figure if i beat on my tranny might as well change the oil once a year to keep her nice.

Got a question about the cocktail. Does this help with the 2nd to 1st downshift of 1st grinding at nearly anything but a dead stop?

Does anyone know if there is a thread anywhere on here or on like nasty cock that shows how to do all this stuff at home? I'd really like to do it myself and save some money cuz this sounds like a good idea. I got a little grindage into 3rd. Nothing serious at all just wana see if this helps.

MilesFox

uhh....i would assume after you buy all the stuff, you put it in your transmission. make sure the car is at your house when you do it. unless you have the stuff already, you would have to buy it first. :)

it does help a bit...but it doesnt completely solve the horrible 2>1 subaru shift.

this is exactly the problem i was experience 3-4 years ago when i first started using it. it completely cured my 3rd gear grind and at the point i became a believer.

Perhaps those bashing the fluid had transmissions that were too far gone to save. If you think about it, syncros are what will make shifting difficult. The fluid was just something to blame when the syncros finaly desintegrated.
Fluid wont replace lost material, don't count on it to do anything but treat the symptoms of the problem.

you'd be surprised how much grinding can go away from fresh tranny fluid. i know i was. and the 2>1 shift is a tough shift in most regular cars unless you rev match.

the lightweight shockproof is smurf blue....anyone know why? superlightweight shockproof is not blue though.....?

i heard gargomel makes each bottle from two smurfs...

I've run a Shockproof/Mobil 1 cocktail for my last two flushes and have had really good results. I'm ordering some Syncromesh now to add that to the mix. :)

i had experienced 4->5 grinding pretty regularly. i do not know how the previous owner treated my 99RS, so i put some redline 75w90 in, and it didnt help at all.

so, i ordered some Swepco 201 fluid.

shifts much smoother and no more grinding of any kind at all.

it is definitely more expensive than the cocktail ($60 with shipping), but well worth it.

what do you guys recommend for someone who isn't experiencing any grinding, but is in need of a tranny fluid change? and for that matter, what should I use in my rear diff?

^yep. and redline 75w90 is what most subaru guys buy from us for rear diff fluid.
