My 97 OBS project log

My fiance bought my car and she gave me her old turd.
Basically traded so she could have something reliable. She got t boned a week ago and the OBS needs a LOT of work. Pics first:

215k miles
Auto (first auto I've ever owned)
Runs great, drives straight, motor and good shifting trans are good, it's ran AMS oil for past 120k

Needs:
brakes, 2 doors, front fenders (rusty), exhaust fixed, rack and pinion leaking a LOT

Plans are to fix it up, good and reliable. then lift it, bigger dirt tires, maybe some rally cross, mostly snow beast and off road (lots of trails around here and I camp a lot).

first day I had it I went to the junk yard and found a beautiful red OBS, so I got the doors and steering rack.
Doors went on all right. The rack and pinion were a pain in the ass, broke four bolts off, going to be harder then hell to fix.

fun little project you've got here. Are you planning on just getting it in running condition or do you have something else planned for it?

I haven't decided. I'm either going to fix the body and paint it, to sell. Or leave the body in shotty and make it my off road slut.

Awesome! That looks like my car. Got mine for 2K w/117K miles. She drives straight as an arrow. I'll work on the body over the winter.

Update:
Fixed the steering rack, works great. Fixed exhaust. Made light bar, mounted up the lights but still need to be wired up.

Most importantly, I took your advice, RALLY SLUT wins!
Spent maybe 4 hours this week on my rally track.

And thoughts on paint color ideas?
I've been thinking about flat army green, wrb with black top (a pillars up), black the whole car, maybe paint the other two doors red and a superman theme.

I am planning on doing the olive drab color this winter with black stickers for auto-x and rally-x. I like olive drab on just about anything.

Fixed the sway bar and made my own cat back, old one was rusted and fell off.
I'll get pics of it nex time. Been off roading it a lot. two or three times a week. Twice in the mud this week. And I finally gave it it's first wash.

I finally got to test out my new dirt tires today. It had rained for a day, so it's nice and muddy. The Perelli PZero's are 10x better. I have a couple videos I'll try to get up too.

Went to the detroit reagion scca season ender in Capac MI.
I haven't seen the final resaults, but I was 2nd in SA in the morning heat along with the fastest time in the class with 2 cones. Pretty good for my 2nd ever rally cross and first with this car. everyone was getting an average of 4 cones per run, it was slick. In my last run (not knowing that I was doing as well as I was) decided to have fun with it and hit 14 cones, thats a record for me.

Did a lot of driving, so not much time for taking pics.

Haven't been doing much Lately. Changed all the fluid, trans is shifting nicer.
I helped my buddy get his 92 svx running and have been concidering doing a eg33 swap down the road. It would be cheaper then a V2 Wrx
swap and I could use my trans, just move the radiator forward a little and splice the ECM.

I'm going to pick up a cheap, good running svx from Chicago Saturday.
I haven't decided it I want to put it in my car and not have a daily drive till it's done.
Or put it in my brother bugeye with a blown Sti motor.

Time will tell

Really bad rod knock. I haven't torn it down yet.
The Sti motor is getting a very slow rebuild. The Wrx is getting my new svx motor.
I spent 12 hours in a truck yesterday to go get the thing. The diff was destroyed so I got the car pretty cheap. Runs well. This is another project though, maybe I'll have another thread for it.

Thanks. But the paint will get a touch up in the spring.
This project is pretty much done for a year or so.
I'm H6 swapping my and my brothers Wrx.
That car will get it's own thread when it get underway.
