I started with a completely stock 2003 WRX, and I learned quickly how much fun you can have in a machine such as this. It has come a long way since then, and I curently do mostly auto-X (Till I can afford to break it on a rally-x course regularly) and the occasional trip to the beach for some added bonuses. It is currently Stg 2, TEIN S-Tech springs and the rubbery goodness of the Bridgestone Potenza tires(for the street). I would like to learn how to drive for rally racing later on down the road. Any and all advice offered would be greatly appreciated. As you can see from the pics below, I could use the advice of the "Seasoned Veterans"...
This was the start of the day...

And just 18 minutes later, after shooting a few video clips for fun...

I am still trying to figure out what I learned from this, but I am pretty sure it is that I need professional help.
Thank god for helmets and 5-point harnesses...

The damage was mainly cosmetic. A few zip-ties and some nylon string and she was back on the road to recovery. The ego was hurt more than anything, though.

Nice crash...My personal advice and I'm sure many other's on here is to attend a rally school. Since you're in Washington, I suggest the Primitive Racing driving school in Oregon. I was just there last weekend myself and loved it. The absolute best mod for your car and going faster is the driver mod.

I have been considering Primitive Rally school ever since I talked to SubieGal at SubieFest, I just don't have the $$$ or the time right now. Especially with the repair bill for my car now. I am very much an auto-x/road racing kinda guy, but I still like to play in the dirt once in a while. I'm a kid at heart. :D

BTW...Does anyone happen to know where I can get the bumper cover fairly cheap? I'm not sure whether I want to stay OEM or not, but I am open to suggestions.

Start rallycrossing right MEOW ! ... it will prepare you for all sorts of stuff , like that. ... and with time its should all be in slowmotion, and you should be able to correct for it.

Dirt is a whole new world, dont feel bad I have been up on the banks before too. Everyone should have! If not you can tell them they have never pushed there car to the limit on the dirt! Thats what rally is the precise-ness of driving your car to the limit on a bed of marbles. Thats why they say Rally drivers are some of the best in the world if not the best!

I agree with you 100%. I just learned yet another aspect of my car, and have decided that I really want to pick up a dedicated rally car instead of using my daily driver to have that kind of fun. It just seems like a good idea after that incident, because I can get away with auto-X but not so much on the dirt. I tend to go that extra step to find that "Edge", and on dirt, there are just too many variables to ensure a safe trip to work in the morning. Maybe an old Leggy?

a lot of us rallyX our daily drivers....most rallyX courses on are on an open field, so you don't have as many 'variables' and its very safe to learn. Paul's school is cheap!! (compared to O'Neils on the east coast......$4000!!!)

anyway, for your bumper cover, try this out:
http://www.car-part.com/

it'll tell you what, where, how much and what color.

or, you can go with my new bumper decals.....pics coming soon....

bingo!

that decal is awesome...

I could use one on the front of my car, and one on the side that says "got sideskirt?". Apparently our sideskirts are not immune to highcentering on logs :/

:D
