This might make sense to me if work didn't block the pictures.
Care to describe in words?

the past few times i've gotten into ditches i've: 1) rolled 3x. 2) gotten stuck at a 45% angle. 3) hit a rock and bent the lower control arm into a banana, demolished a fender and tire and damaged the inner tie rod

Given that the picture is of Dani Sordo and he finished third in the event, I'd say he made it over that with no issues. If you look at the other tracks on the road, you can see that several other cars also hooked that corner pretty heavily.

I am not sure that tree is big enough to protect the camera guy from the spray that is about to come his way

A good reason why a REAL skidplate and underbody protection is critical to a strong rally effort.

I was at that event in Maine 2002. Many cars had some issues in years past with the bridges up north. They are some tricky sections leading upto most of the bridges and during the Maine Winter rally i was a bit sketched out after i went over a short one sideways and somehow made it across without going off it.

Got any photos or video? It would make a sweet back ground on the computer, gotta love winter action shots!

I love hookering! I mean hooking....ditches. I've started experimenting with dropping a tire off the side every now and then when its a pretty small ditch. It's very usefully for pulling you around turns but if done wrong it can be done VERY wrong.

Note to self: get skidplates soon
