i think Yokos are better, but i like the look of the tread pattern on those grabbers...

Agreed on that Grabber pattern.....looks like they would provide some great traction
From tirerack...looks like the Yokowas only higher in Dry Traction.
The are more $$$ to....I'm sure both would be acceptable...but the General might be GREAT!

would you have to run spacers with a stock suspension set up on 16's? (with those tires)?

i've run the grabber at2's in 215/65/16 on my old legacy wagon.
they do great in the dirt and you should get decent mileage out of them too.
i doubt they will fit on a stock wrx. my legacy was lifted on outback struts/springs.
I actually just got them back from the new owner of my old wagon to go on our new legacy beater.

how are these in the snow? and would running either sets of these with studs really screw anything up for off road driving?

AFAIK the generals are not designed to be studded.
they do well in the snow as well. my gf put a set on her old kia sportage after i told her about how much i liked mine on the wagon. she got around no problem in 2wd.

I'm going through a similar process, and here's what I've found so far with the following setup:
- 07 Wagon
- Geolandar 215/60/R17 tire
- Sedan struts (D-specs)
- Stock 07 WRX wagon wheels. (+53 mm offset I think?)
- Stock alignment
So far I've only done a partial fit check on the rear strut only. There is slight rubbing between the inside edge of the tire and the lower spring perch. Slight enough to be self-clearancing after a mile or so I'd say... No rubbing at full droop (no sideskirts on the car though), and I haven't checked full bump yet.
Now, this is all without any spacers... As soon as I throw on the Jackson Rally 1" lift kit, I'm going to need to add some negative camber in the rear, which is going to make the rubbing a lot worse. Also, with the rear suspension setup, dropping the strut height brings the tire forward in the wheel well, bringing it that much closer to the rocker panel/sideskirt.
This tire and the one you are looking at are really close in outside dimensions, so you can expect to run into the same problems. If I were you I would run the 215/60/R16 tires instead, which should buy you just enough room to clear the perch and avoid the sideskirt/rocker panel.
Also, it doesn't hurt to play it safe. I've only picked up a single tire so far, just in case we can't make everything fit without too much persuasion. Eating the cost of one tire is a lot better than eating the cost of four...

from this thread, the 215/65/16 will work just fine. :)
