So yeah, have you noticed how the main index of the forums hesitiates to load? Also that if youre using Internet Explorer, it likes to show that theres "errors on the page"?

Line: 196
Char: 3
Error: Object required
Code: 0

Yeah thanks a lot IE... care to specify which of the 50+ php pages this is happening on? effing microsoft.... :shootsself:

The slow loading index is a mystery. We are on a lightning fast server, and yet the forum index crawls (probably some javascript timing out, but i dont know what it is exactly)

phpbb sucks. It was cool to start with but we've already outgrown it. I am planning on buying a license for vBulletin soon and will probably start planning the migration soon. So what does this mean to you guys? well the forums will probably be down overnight one night. The colors and stuff will be different, but if youve used ANY other subaru forum, you're probably already familiar with the interface.

I just need to be able to do things like create subforums easily, and other stuff... so the upgrade just makes sense.

Stay tuned.

IE, huh? Use Firefox, it goes into a bit more detail:

formStyle.js (line 195)
document.getElementById("formStyleTestImage") has no properties
var x = document.getElementById('formStyleTestImage').offs etWidth;

SMF (www.simplemachines.org) is a free/open source forum system that is incredibly customizable if you want to save some dough. I use it for my local car "club" board.

Yeah, the current posts and topics will be imported into vBulletin. Everyone will keep their same names, post counts, etc.

I actually do use firefox as my primary browser. It doesn't bother me with error messages :)

+1 on firefox...it does take a bit to load the main index, but everything else moves right along

And thats what pisses me off. ALL the forum pages should be as fast as the ones below the main index.

Oh, you need to install the extension Firebug (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843)to get this. While you're at it... install Web Developer (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/60), IE Tab (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419), Download Statusbar (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/26), and FireFTP (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/684) (if you ever use FTP). Then search for more (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:1).

Been using phpBB for a while over at RallyXPortal.com - I've found that hesitation is usually due to loading an image from outside its directory or from the individual theme - change theme, change access time. It also depends on how many emoticons you have installed as each has to load, etc.

Anyway - :D
