I'm Pete. I rallycross with the WOR group, with various cars, mainly RX-7s. I haven't owned a Subaru in ten years, but I hold nothing against them. (Even though they're slower than an old Mazda... :D )

Every event this season I have not been beaten by a 2wd car.
But this is full out hill climbing so I will give you a break... Just this once.
Lets see some sideways action in the RX-7

Oh yeah, I tend to make inciteful comments and broad sweeping generalizations, too :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNEgmS039gk Awesomest rallycross video. Evar.
The car in that vid and all the other WOR videos was my old car. The new car looks nicer and will have twice as much power as the old one... and it'll be a fair bit lighter too. I'll need it, next year our M2 class will have a super beefy, possibly forced induction Rabbit (yeah, Curtis should be back for 2008!), a Quad 4 powered CRX, and the ZC-powered CRX team may be upgrading to turbo Neon. The ZC powered CRX makes everybody else look like they're standing still if it's muddy, so I have great worries regarding the Q4 powered one.

I could never do that to the Subarus I had because the starter was under the spare tire... fortunately they push-start easily with one foot out the door and right foot on the clutch :) Poorly spec'ed Nippondenso starters, contacts wear out rapidly. Easy fix though if you're cheap.
And then there was the time I bolted the throttle down for 15 minutes on the way to work because the radiator wouldn't hold water any more and I was running late for work... wasn't late :) Did similar stuff to the RX-7s, like driving 130 miles home with a broken differential (let off throttle and the rearend would lock up, fun times) or driving 300 miles with the rearend mostly detached from the car (have a video of that on YouTube) and stuff like that...
I've been rallycrossing since the beginning of the '04 season, there's tons of pics/vids of my junk out there. Waiting for pics of the new one, though :)

Thanks man :D Your photo skillz are ever appreciated. (Especially that second one from the top... very nice)
When the Golf finally goes, I've decided that I want to hunt down a 5sp/FWD Impreza or a 5sp/AWD 1st-gen Legacy. (They're about the same size as a GD!) But for now I'll keep playing with my poor man's Stratos.

That's going to replace the LeBaron, I think.
I picked up some Koni Sport inserts for the rear of an '04-07 WRX, was planning on building new front struts around them, but they're just a hair too long. (Like 1/2" or so too long... there's a LOT of suspension travel in my car :) ) and now I'm dithering on putting them up for sale or hanging on to them just in case...
I'd *really* like a set of STI front struts, but I dunno.

Rev limiters are nice to have, eh? Next time out I'll have it set a wee bit higher, and it'll be on both ignition systems so it will be a bit "noisier"...
and I'll have some friggin' rally tires mounted up too

Five lugs? Splainify, plz!
The puck clutch is gonna go. It keeps hammering the diff's pinion yoke loose.
it had a Gen2 RX7 hub & brake kit...
this was a Mazda factory upgrade kit avail. for the 323GTX back before Mazdaspeed was called Mazdaspeed, like in 90 or 91, I think it was off a Turbo II / GTU RX7 and you end up with nice big brakes (for a 2200 lb car) and five bolt hubs.. 5 must be better then 4 right?
good catch though!
& it was a pretty well built car, rumored to have been a former Millen car except that when I was selling it, some guy who worked for Millen came out to look at buying it and said no, all Millen cars had been upgraded to a HD diff case or something so it wasn't ever one of Steve's cars - kinda popped by little bubble but thats ok.. this thing went from 'no power' (anything below 3K) to 'you better pick a place to land cause you are about to be launched' as the turbo came on and pulled hard up til about 7500.. (as hard as a 1.6L motor can) it had a Reich Racing ECU with an 'adjusted' rev limiter - it was a lot of fun but I was afraid that I was going to break something big (read expensive) and parts are becoming hard to come by so I off-loaded it - it was a sad day....

I am assuming that the FC rear hubs get used all around. I wonder if this requires special knuckles or if the bearings are the same size? I wouldn't give odds either way, given how Mazda loves parts commonality (heck, the stock 323GTX may just be 4-lug FC rear hubs all around) and conversely how SOME Japanese automakers would use completely different stuff on their Group A cars, much larger struts/knuckles/bearings/etc, even when it was supposed to be factory-stock. ("Okay we'll make X number of them... 20 competition models and (X-20) spares, none go to the street")
Just spent a good hour and a half wrestling a rusty FC to get its front suspension out. Too hot for that crap. The 4x4.5 bolt pattern is a lot easier to find stuff than for the 4x110. I am using GSL-SE (13B-powered 1st-gen) rear axles for that bolt pattern, but the -SE front end still has the weenie small bearings (I've bent a few front spindles rallycrossing... **** breaks deal with it!) and the struts are very difficult to change. The 4 lug FC stuff has separate rotors and separate struts, so life is much easier. And the 4 piston caliper 5 lug stuff WILL bolt on, all you have to do is redrill the rotors for 4 lug. This is an eventual plan, but for now I want the upgradability of the front end and the ability to use 14" rally tires which don't require extensive fender mods like the 65cm tires do. (Note Impreza reference: I got the 16-65-15 Michelins from Team Illuminata. Paul runs a great business and he sells a whole line of Subaru-specific rally-oriented stuff, check them out!) Anything larger than 13" for the 110 bolt pattern is rare as hen's teeth.
