This weekend drewsti and myself assisted in an install of KYB AGX struts on Jeremy's (Redlinerally) new project car, a 1996 OBS that he'll be using as a dd and strict autocross beast. We used H&R lowering springs which dropped the car drastically and felt great on the street. I'm sure there'll be a new Member Journal on the car soon.
My question is, If I were to grab a set of these and mount them with my stock springs (so as not to change ride height) does the adjustability allow a setting for softer than stock? I only ask because I'd be rallycrossing the car and it'd be nice to mess around with suspension dampening to allow me to tune my setup a lil' during racedays.
I suppose I need to figure out if it's a worthwhile investment for me. I plan on doing some autocrossing in the future, but won't be stopping the Rallycrossing any time soon...unless my buds and I get our rally project in motion.
Any info'd be great!

I don't think their softest setting is softer than stock.

+1
Koni Sports, with just adjustble bump, can go a LITTLE bit softer than stock, but the rebound remains the same throughout adjustment... so on softest setting, after a series of washboards your car will be sitting on the ground, gotta love Konis.... (this is the experience from my dads car 04 SER Spec-V) Actually I bet the Konis on Softest Bump would still be stiffer than stock OBS....

I ran the KYB AGXs for years and was happy with 1 in all 4 corners for daily driving, I ran 2 up front and stiffest in the back when I was rally-xing and I used 3 when I was "spirited" driving on dirt.
But overall a decent shock not the strongest for dirt driving but get the job done.

you need to be careful running AGX on the softest setting. I have known a few people who ran them on the softest settings for daily driving, in the end they all ended up with blown struts.

Good to hear you got the OBS project off the ground! Can't wait to see the members journal...

actually you don't. they have a manufacturers lifetime warranty and they really uphold it. I use AGX's on my rally honda and on my RS. I warranty my honda struts almost monthly. Seriously, you can send them a hunk of twisted orange/red metal and a sticker that says agx, and they'll send you brand new struts.
My suggestion is to run the AGX's with a custom spring. progressive and soft, but with about 2 or 3 extra coils. Then you can compress them Too far when you build your agx struts with them, and run you AGX's harder. This works well in Rally X because you hard strut will keep lots of contact with the fast rebound, but you springs (being progressive and soft) will help keep the understeer down. The extra coils are nice because they keep you riding high on s oft springs, and really help eliminate your bottoming under heavy bumps, ruts, or jumping.
I've been doing these setups for about 2 years now, and I've got me honda running the fastest laps, on our rally-style Rally-x course (jumps, trees, 60mph zones), ever.
my 2 cents

Really you can send them back? they don't advertise that

Yeah, call them first, depending on the situtation they'll either send out a shipping label and you stick it on a box with the struts, or sometimes you have to pay the shipping. but 26$ to ship of 4 blown struts and get 4 new ones is cheap

The softest setting in the rear is one click softer than stock. The front, at the lowest setting, is the same as stock. From what I've read at least. And it feels that way too.

Too bad you don't remember how it feels. :( Get that thing running again!!! I miss it.

I have a set of agx's on my car right now with stock rs springs. They are still pretty stiff even on the softer settings. However, they soak up the bumps nicely off road during the rallx's for me
