Well in my search for a good full time "dirt" tire I decided on some BFG All-Terrains 215-75-15. These measure 27.8" O.D. with a tread width of 7'' where as the Kumho's/and or most other "rally" tires are approx. 25'' O.D. I decided to sell my stockers and commit to a dirt tire 24/7. Now hit me with the "do they rub questions". Well define rub... I bought one of these tires about 3-4 weeks ago to mock things up, surprisingly they clear better in the front than they do in the rear. So I spent a few weekends putting the one tire one the front then rear and driving the car up a rather large curb at full steer and everything seemed to clear. Of course now that I purchased a full set and actually drove with them on I have a few more rub issues...IMO nothing major. BTW my suspension is 100% stock. I know Forrester struts will make things clear but I want to keep my stock struts. I may come up with a quick lift though to ease some of these rub issues, nothing major prob. just 3/4''. As of right now under a hard hit (prob when hitting a rut at a rallyx) the rear rubs on the wheel well and the front just nicks the top of the fender liner. But just beyond the fender liner are wires....so just to be 100% safe I will prob. lift the car 3/4''. This is all the info I have right now, I will make a few more adjustments and keep all posted. I need to race on these at Antioch!!!! So by then all the bugs will be worked out. BTW the tires retailed for 109.99 and I got 5@ 102.99, and through 4wheelparts.com for an extra 100 bucks you can get a no questions asked full replacement warraty on the tires (they expect you to use these off-road!!). The warranty is legit I've used it on another vehicle a few years ago.

I'm liking them. I first thought they looked like rally tires still, but then saw the lettering on them. The big question is can the sidewalls handle the stress of stage rally and rallyx?

I would say no for stage rally, but for rallyx and all the F'n around we do I should NEVER have a problem. Remember these tires are normally on trucks and SUV's that weigh at least 1000lbs more than my little Suby. 8)

My buddy had some BFG 35s just like those on his ranger with just a body lift, he could take this one corner as fast or faster than my suby when I had S-Techs..... He would always tailgate me around it, and my car had no more turnin left....

haha, thats great. Thinking back, im surprised more people dont do this. Are those the smallest size? I have run tons of BFG's on my trucks, those tires as aggressive they seem for a car, really arent that crazy on a truck and last pretty damn long so it should work nice for you! Good luck

Thanks, I hope to get many miles on these.
Yeah these are the smallest size without going to a 14'' wheel. But then you can only get down to a true 27.0'' O.D.

that's awesome...I can't believe they don't rub at full lock!?
You may just have started a new trend of all wheel drive pre-runners.
That wagon looks indestructable. It's prob. so much fun in the dirt (smoother and more hook up)
How's the cars performance pushing the larger diameter?

those look soo mean! It does look really tight in the rear, but for rallycross and just messing around in the dirt i think youd be just fine. Can't wait to see em in person!

Yeah me either. There are no problems for "grocery gettin" I was going to be dreading it if they rubbed every time I pulled into a parking spot. But the rear actually rubs on the forward most edge of the rear bumper (its almost self clearanced) and on hard hits where you are bottoming the suspension the rear hits in the wheel well area by the door. Im having some parts machined for the 3/4'' lift and should be on by next weekend.

Someones catching on to my "uncoventional" approach to my Suby.
As far as performance, off the line its a tiny, tiny bit more sluggish , but when she boosts its not noticable.

So how are you going about the body lift? Is it just spacer plates on the strut towers?

I was gonna ask the same question....and I'm assuming the same answer....spacers inbetween the top of the strut tower and bottom of the fire wall.
But with stock (rubber) top hats, I'm not sure how well that will work.....????? with aluminum camber plates, no problem.

Yup thats exactly what I'm doing. Just a simple spacer between the top of the strut and the mounting point (strut tower). I'm actually going with a 1'' lift cause I got the material for free (stuffs expensive). As far as "rubber" top hat???? The stock ones are steel....though on the front there is a rubber type of coating on part of it but it is not where the mounting surface is.
So far everything is awesome, but for a little insurance I would rather have some clearance at full bump so hopfully the parts will be machined by this weekend and I can put them in

This is the rubber I was talking about, but looking at this picture, yeah, if you just do a big spacer with 3 holes for the mounting bolts, that should raise the car nicely. shouldn't affect camber too much either.
what's the material?

Yea the part you see in the pic. has some type of rubber coating, but it seems to just help seal that little cap in the center from getting dirt into the top hat bearings. The material I am using is 6061 t-6 blanchard ground alum. I would imagine it is the same as adjusting a coilover shock for more/less ride height, but this way I am able to control where the bump out is and still have the same wheel travel.

can you PM me with some info (pricing) on this spacer? I'd like to up my rear another 1/2 (at least), but can't with my coilovers, at this point, any higher and the springs will start binding on hard hits. this is a good way to do that.

Sure thing Jon, I will have more info on pricing when I pick up my parts from the machinist. A .500'' spacer would be alot less than mine too cause the material cost will be less....I was also thinking of maybe offering a couple of .250'' spacers and people could just tune their desired height with one or more and to make a run of just .250'' would prob. be alot cheaper. I'll know more this weekend.

I too would like to get pricing on a set of spacers. How are they going to work with the strut tops? An extension on the studs or will the studs actually still able to take a nut after a 1" spacer?

I had concerns about that too, how high can you go without having problems with the studs being able to thread into the nuts on top?

The stock studs will only allow the use of a .250'' spacer...the kits will come with longer studs which I'm in the process of locating as we speak.

Sweet action. I want spacers on my car. It's too low with the STi springs, but for what I have in them (less than $100 for springs, tops, and spacers) I can't complian. I do like the added stiffness.

Yea I'm hoping to get my bros stock STI struts and I was thinking the same thing: have better valving/stiffer but the car will be slightly lower so with spacers I guess you can get more ride height with an inexpensive STI strut swap.
I'm working on the numbers and still need to find the replacement studs....you will all know more when I know more :D

Purdy cool idea with the "body lift". ... will it work with the rear also ?
You could add some more pieces from another bunp stop on the stut piston, that will truly limit your travel. ... if rubbing is a problem at full compression.
Should work as long as you don't over do it. There are some autocrossers that like to stack bumpstops on the piston so that you cannot see the piston shaft. !!!
( They are trying to cheat and increase the spring... I mean wheel rate. )

I know they're made for trucks, but I presume there are several good reasons why they wouldn't work on a car? I am a complete noob when it comes to stealing ideas from desert trucks and adapting them for econoboxes :D
I kinda backed off on the idea anyway - after seeing Zap's pics  maybe I'll just armour the underside instead :D

Those would sit in between the spring and strut which would cause the strut to top out more than it should, less free sag = ****ty ride (for the trucker bros it does not matter). By putting the spacer on top of the strut, i.e. Drtywagon's spacer, you have the same amount of suspension free sag.
Kyle, let me know when to start marketing your product/s.
