Just wanted to post that I just got here to Hillsboro, OR and am about to start Paul Eklund's school. I'll prolly post more about how it was a bit later. I got a whole weekend of rallying ahead of me. :D

Its hard to be in my office and rallyschool at the same time.

That would have been pretty badass to fly up there and meetup though ;)

Ehh get a dummy that looks like you so you can do both. You just gotta get a friend in on it and move it around and remove at the end of the day so it doesn't look suspicious.

It's looking like it's gonna be a good school so far from what I've seen here. People are starting to show up and there's a few big names on the instructor's list, like subiegal.

Well I just got done with the first day and learned a lot. I realized that I already knew a lot of the information being given out and did it sometimes, but never really actively thought about it. I think now that I'm thinking about it I can apply what I was taught more consistantly.

We went over rally history briefly, diffrent types of rally, TSD basics, driving skills, and a little bit of co driving. Obviously the longest and most interesting was the driving skills part. He covered car control, accelerating, turning, braking, Scandinavian flick, how to recover from losing adhesion, left foot braking to name the big ones. He also covered racing techniques such as which apex to take to get the fastest exit and safest and which corners to pay attention to most. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow and driving.

Just got done with the 2nd day a couple hours ago, today was great. My instructor was Jamie "subiegal" Thomas, and we had a group of 4. I learned a lot today, and had way too much fun. We started off on the skid pad, then slalom, a tightening corner course, then a 90 degree corner course with a small loop, and finally the scandinavian flick. We also did a lunchtime TSD which was semi competitive against everyone else and they connected all the courses at the end of the day and we ran a rallyx for times. Me and my codriver came in 5th out of like 20 in the TSD, apparently some of our calculations were off or the clocks were off cause we thought we were early coming in at the end and were late a few seconds. I was able to do the scandinavian flick consitantly every try after the first try in one direction only, but we really only practiced it going to the left. I do believe I had it to the right in the rallyx though. The way Jamie instructed us we were not to use brakes at all, just throttle and steering. I thought that was good, but I didn't get any seat time insight as to when to use the brakes.

I would like to do this school again as long as I can get a different instructor. Not that I didn't like her, I just want a variety of instruction and would benefit more to have a different instructor each time.

Hey seb, i am planning on going to the may class...any suggestions? inside track? which vehicle did you rent? was it one of the ones on the list?

You just may see me and Jon there if I can convince him to come along.

Suggestion is to be flexible, have extra money saved and cash in hand for debeads and bring fluids. Ask questions you have whether or not you think you know the answer, you may be suprised to the response Paul will give you. Someone else could be wondering the same thing as you are, but afraid or too tired to ask. The classroom part ended too fast when I went cause I was the only one with the balls to ask questions. Make friends as soon as you get there, you will pair up for a TSD the 2nd day. Listen to the instructors suggestions and do as they say, they're there to help but do not have to be.

I drove my WRX up there, so no renting for me which I was very glad I did. The rentals were prepped and had rally tires on them which made it more difficult to learn. (You will learn a lot more on street tires when youre sliding a lot easier, especially on the skid pad)

Thats cool that you got Jaime as an instructor, she answers literally weekly emails from me asking what part numbers are what on the RS. LOL
