2nd Annual MNSubaru Ice Race 3-9-07

Heres a quick vid i whipped up today. its from the 2nd annual MNSubaru Ice Race which was in March '07. google hacked up the quality. FYI: there is nothing to see after 2 minutes 9 sec. small editing error made it 5 min long.

there was another on in january but i didnt get much footage to make a video from. this march race was much smaller only about 9 people total made it (compared to 40 for the january one) and my limited filming only covers a few of us driving.

i cant wait for winter :twisted:

A member in the club owns a resort on pelican lake, in Orr (way up by canada) so he hosts the event at the resort. we rent cabins and such. As it is a lake there are no land use issues. they only real thing we have to worry about legally is the whole wreckless driving issue. going to fast on the lake, unsafe driving yada yada yada. but as far as i know the polica do not have juristiction over the lakes so the DNR would need to come out to enforce it. but this is so far away from anything no one cares.

yep. you have to pay to play. The engine blew (spun bearing or some jazz not exactly sure what). kinda wierd how that happened. he went out to start the car to drive home, and it sounded like that. I actually missed this happening since I left about 1hr before they started it up. I wanted an early start so I could stop in brainerd and pick up my new transmission. being i roasted my 4EAT on the first day of the races (before the track was setup). This was at the january races.

The engine in the WRX was a EJ257 w/ EJ205 heads. they just put it in a few months before this happened. If you check out the duluth trip vid: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6646713877839801051&hl=en the motor just had 1000 miles on it for this video. (hes the one stuck on the beach)

Grimmspeed knows whats up with the motor (as its his WRX).

+1 on the song. Thats one thing that i definitely want to do before i die is go drive on a frozen lake. Props on you guys all driving together on the other guy's video 3 at a time. There were some great shots of the snow and ice flying up while you were sideways. so dope!

During the day it got pretty hot. I think it was in the 40s F. all the snow/ice you see if all slush. it REALLY slows you down. we noticed huge hits on the times when the ice heated up and got soft. after we did the video, at sundown the ice started to re-form. That is the time to drive. seriously we were able to go SO FAST it was unreal. I swear i was going faster on the ice than i would on pavement. Going through some of the corners at ~60mph w/o braking.

If any of you want to come I am sure you would be more than welcome. it would be a huge drive but none the less be a ton of fun. We normally run 2 races. 1 in january another in march. There will be lotsa video taken this time for sure.

Studs are legal. you can run pretty much what ever you want. its a for fun event. the timing is a bonus. the first year Rich was running his STi with studded Nokians. i wish i had taken a picture of the ice, it was brutal the damage those tires did to it. on the plus side it made it so you could kinda walk throught e corners with out falling over.
