Wow, I removed all my brake pads in my front brakes today to figure out why my brakes squeel when I step on the brakes while in reverse. I must say that removing the pads on these calipers is incredibly easy and fast. All I had to do was take a screw driver to help remove the metal clip on the side, slide out the top pin, remove the bracket that connected the pins, remove the other pin and slide the pads out. Talk about an easy brake pad change, with the tires off you can change the pads on both sides in about 10-15 minutes. Damn I love this car.

Yeah Rally Inspired!

You should see how many brake pads the Group N guys would go though in a rally.

Some would even change out calipers during the event because they were getting the calipers so hot the seals needed to be replaced.

I have been rallying on my 4-pot brakes for 3 years now and have never gotten by calipers hot enough to crack the seals.

Soooo what was the squeak?

Dunno, still haven't found the problem. Ill check all 4 calipers next week after I get back from Oregon this weekend, I gotta change my oil anyhow. I think one of the wear indicators just got bent out a little at Octillo and only causes noise while stopping in reverse. The indicators look as if theyre directional, so it's possible.

Break-off the "indicators"... and if you still have dust shield, make sure its staight and away from the rotor.

They are just directional shims. When I got my STI it would squeal every time I came to a stop going forward and not back. So I took it to the dealer and they wanted to replace everything pads and rotors, it would only be like $1200. I thought "that sounds reasonable why doesn't everyone do this when there's a little noise coming from the brakes." I said thanks for the "help" and "investigation" and promptly left before they decided to do it anyway. I took it home after buying some brake grease from autozone. I took out the pads and discovered the little arrows were backwards. I swapped them around and put a little grease on there and no more sound, except after rallyxing in dusty conditions.

yep, they are directional shims, thats why they have the arrows! (Dont you love that brembo squeal in reverse? I think its kinda cool!)

If you have them in the right way, but some CRC brake quiet between the shims and the pad and your brake noises should become a thing of the past.
