How to remove a silencer

Hey everyone. I'm trying to remove a silencer on my 99 outback legacy, and I'm wondering how to do this, and is it a final modification? Also, has anyone else done this, and what did it sound like?
I know it's an impreza forum but i thought I would give it a shot.:D

if the car is Mass AirFlow based leave it in there. there is some good research with the newer cars that shows taking out can cause poor MAF readings. the principals behind why and how will still apply to the older cars. here is the reading: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1471819
