I think my car went into a safe mode and now has a rev limiter at 5100. I thought I heard somewhere that you can just unhook the battery and hook it back up.
how long to leave disconnected?
this is just a general Q, it cant be more than 5 minutes right?

Usually if you disconnect it and step on the brakes you'll only have to wait 30 seconds to a minute.
If you tap on the brakes, the power is bled from the system almost instantly. You really don't have to wait at all.

Love the trick with RomRaider that lets me reset my ECU without popping the hood.
