Does anyone know why in the world subaru used single port heads in the 97' imprezas?

Yeah, why did they do that?
I am trying to drop a 97 engine into my 95 and now I need a single port to make it work. Grrr...

How did you put the dual port on the 98? If thats possible I am all for it considering I most likely have all the necessary parts... Now the skill, that could be a problem. So howz it done?

it's money, drilling 4 holes is more expensive than 2, and valves and all that.

The heads are the same, except for the exhaust ports. If you do the swap you will need the heads, the exhaust manifold, head gaskets, water pump, timing belt( make sure you find out if it is a california motor or not), and a little bit of time. It took me 3hrs, but I also put in a clutch.

Sweet, I have a blown 95 ej22 that I am replacing with a 97 ej22 (both California motors) and would love to just keep the dual port. SO I guess I could just use the water pump and all that from my 95 and it will just swap over...:headbang:
