I recently purchased an SPT performance intake (i dont have a link for it, just a bigger intake, not a cold air) i havnt gotten a chance to install it, but i was wondering what i would have to do to maintain the correct air ratios etc. Also, if i need to upgrade the exhaust to accomadate for more air. any info would help, sorry i know this is really newbie.. i just want a little more power/sound, but would void the warranty putting any aftermarket parts in that arent made by SPT. thanks

If I remember correctly, I believe adding the SPT you won't have to do anything since Subaru designed it such that it wouldn't affect the stock tune as badly as some other aftermarket ones that mess with the MAF scaling.

However, don't take my word on it.

the spt intake was "designed" specifically for our cars, i think they're even backed up by subaru's warranty.

just for your piece of mind:
call your subaru dealer talk to the parts department ask for an spt intake and ask "hey would this void my warranty?" and they will say no.

but for original question, would you have to change anything to accomodate for it? no.

Yeah but if you are really concerned about if this will affect your A/F ratios, then actually get in touch with a reputable tuning shop and ask them. Specifically someone that deals with subaru tuning.

I really dont think you have anything to worry about with a SPT intake.

The SPT product catalog notes that when combined an SPT intake/exhaust package results in up to 30hp and 30lbft gain depending on model. That is with no additional tuning or parts required. Also as long as it is installed by an authorized service center then it is fully covered under your existing warranty.

Can you gain more power if you get a custom tune? Absolutely but that comes at the risk of no warranty coverage. If you want to keep your warranty with as few headaches as possible then stick with the SPT catalog for mods.

putting an aftermarket intake on can affect your MAF readings because they can create air turbulences which will cause the MAF sensor to have false readings which will in turn effect your A/F ratios, but the SPT is made by subaru for your subaru :) so this doesn't happen and there's nothing to do to maintain factory ratios. also just b/c you put an intake on doesn't mean you need an exhaust. the more intake/exhaust you replace the better your engine can breathe and that means your engine is that much more less restricted and in turn produces that much more power. so that's why i believe there is never a need and only a want  to upgrade. hope this helps and good luck

cool, thanks for the help. i will go ahead with the intake, talked to the dealer and he said it wouldn't affect the warranty. is there a thread/website where you can find tune shops by area?

If you are worried about warranty coverage then I'll repeat again; Stick with the SPT catalog and skip the tuner. Once you get a tune your warranty is officially toast. Granted that is not always the case depending on your local dealer/service center. Yes SPT parts are more expensive than aftermarket but you're also not paying for a tune afterwards and retain full warranty coverage.
