While this is considered an autocross, given you're driving over broken WWII pavement and weeds, it's going to be a lot like rallycross.

LPTT are held about 10 miles north of the town of Lone Pine along Hwy 395 at an old B-17 training strip. Totally fun, totally non-serious. They'll provide classes or allow you to form your own class with 5 cars. It could be a rallycrosser's class, Sube class or anything you want. Run either or both days.

In the good old days speeds were quite high. I once radared 115 mph in a 455 TransAm. But with the surface deteriorating, the speeds have been dropped closer to autocross speeds. Last time out I probably got into low 70's on the straights.

Not my event, but I'll be glad to answer what questions I can and forward you on for the others. I think maybe I'll take the Evo this year. Anyone up for a Rallycross Open Class?

No, it's classed and insured as an autocross. Cages or rollbars would only be required on prepared or modified open (topless) cars.

Any FRX or SCCA rallycross-legal car would be good to go. I believe there is an additional requirement for long sleeves, long pants and shoes (vs sandals) but we're talking cotton, not nomex. Helmet requirements are the same: Snell M95 or SA95 or newer. Read the link above for their wording.

That looks, like a blast. I might be interested in dusting a set of tarmac tires. :)
I would have to be in an open class with you Bill. I'm down though, if we can get enough people. One worry is that I have a crack in my windshield; will they let me run with it? I don't want to replace it as it will be coming out in a month or so anyways..

Kurt, to the best of my knowledge, the vehicle safety chapter in the SCCA rulebook does not address windshield cracks. But I think LPTT is an independent event and they will probably do what they want within reason. Personally, if it's a minor crack and not directly in front of driver, I wouldn't bring it up. Some questions are best left unasked.

But there are a couple of phone numbers on that flyer that you can try if you want to.

As far as classing, trust me. There are numerous classes your car could fit into. I'm just proposing a rally open class for grins. Heck, I'm still a stocker on all-weathers. But I'll take on all comers.
